South Carolina began issuing tax returns to taxpayers this week. Qualified South Carolina taxpayers who file their returns by the October 17 deadline can expect to receive up to $800 in state tax credits before the end of the year.

Who will receive South Carolina income tax and how much?

South Carolina lawmakers approved the restoration program as part of the state budget in June. The rebate is based on your 2021 tax return and is limited to $800.

In an announcement this week, the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) said it has begun issuing refunds to eligible taxpayers. Is the refund issued in the form of a direct deposit or a paper certificate for residents who have filed an Individual Income Tax Return 2021 SC (SC1040)? until October 17, 2022.

Those who have not yet filed their return can still claim a refund from South Carolina if they file their return by February 15, 2023. In March 2023 the refund they paid.

Eligible South Carolina taxpayers can check their refund status by visiting the MyDORWAY website. They will need to provide their Social Security number or individual taxpayer number and the amount on line 10 of their 2021 return to verify status.

Please note that refunds are issued per return, not per person. Therefore, married taxpayers who live together will receive a single deduction from South Carolina.

Who will receive a certificate?

SCDOR will issue refunds in the form of direct deposits and paper checks. Direct deposits will be sent to taxpayers who received their 2021 refunds through direct deposit, and the agency will use the same bank account to send the refunds.

On the other hand, paper checks will go to taxpayers who have notified SCDOR of a change in bank information by November 1. In addition, those who received their 2021 refund via credit card or check will also receive their refund via paper check.

Likewise, those who received their 2021 refund by direct deposit to a prepaid or cash-based credit card will also receive a paper check. Paper checks are being mailed to taxpayers who had a balance on their 2021 tax return and did not receive a refund and to those who received a 2021 refund through the tax preparer’s account.

Taxpayers who expect to receive a tax return but have a different email address on one of their 2021 SCDOR tax returns must update their address. To update their address, taxpayers need to log in to MyDORWAY and click on “More chart.

Then under “Names and Addresses”, click on “Manage Names & Addresses”, download form SC8822I,?? ?and email the completed form to TaxSupport@dor.sc.gov.
