Visakhapatnam: The Vizag geographical distribution RTC The authorities plan to run 552 special bus services from the port city to various parts of the two Telugu states including Hyderabad, Vijayawada and others. The special bus services will start from January 7 to January 23 on the occasion of Sankranti and will be free of charge.
The Visakhapatnam district has 700 buses and 500 city buses with about 3,400 employees, including 2,500 drivers and conductors. Now, most of the city services will be diverted as special services as most of the people will be going to their native places a week before Sankranti.
The RTC authorities of Visakhapatnam district ran 492 special bus services last year. All the special vehicles have traveled 2.22 lakh km with an occupancy rate of around 80% and earned 87 lakh rupees.
RTC officials are expecting more passengers this year because of the common flu situation. With this in mind, they added 68 cars. These special buses will run from January 7 to January 15 before the festival and from January 17 to January 23.
“We have decided to run 40 bus services to Hyderabad this year instead of five services on normal days. We have increased the number of bus services to Rajahmundry (75), Vijayawada (65), Palakonda and other places. Buses will be increased due to public demand,” Visakhapatnam RTC director Appala Raju told TOI.
RTC buses run to Icchapuram, Rajam, Canada, Saluru, Amalapuram, Bhimavaram, Palasa, Sompeta, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and other routes. Visakhapatnam bus occupancy rate is 65% and goes up to 75% to 80% on festival days.
