The Vizag-based girl has been selected to represent India in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. The President of the National Cricket Council and the Cricket Association held a commendation program on Thursday to commend his efforts.
Md Shabnam, a 15-year-old girl from Vizag has joined the U19 women’s cricket team and will play in the ICC T20 World Cup in 2023. Shabnam has become the first girl from Vizag to represent the Indian U19 team.
District Collector Mallikarjuna IAS and Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association (VDCA) President congratulated the young lad here in the city. The collector took to Twitter to share pictures of the project.
In recognition of his efforts, a one-time scholarship under the ‘Beti Padhao’ scheme of Rs.50,000 was given to the athlete. Sponsored by Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel India Limited, under its Joint Venture Partnership.
The right-arm pacer, who is only in Class 10 in 2023, will play against South Africa, UAE and Scotland in Group D. The matches will be held in South Africa, starting from January 14 2023.

16 teams are divided into 4 groups. The top three in each team progress to the Super Six League Stage. The qualified teams of Group A will play against the two teams of Group D, and the top teams from Group B will play against the two teams of Group C.
