The fishermen of V. Narasapuram, Bangarammapalem and other villages of Payakaraopeta and Yelamanchili, who have donated lands for the establishment of the Naval Alternate Operating Base (NAOB), have been cheated by the failure to comply with the editorial agreement, said to be a former MLA. and TDP leader V. Anita.

Addressing a press conference with some of the affected fishermen, at the VJF Press Club here on Tuesday, Ms. Anita, the farmers gave their lands for the establishment of the NAOB, 15 years ago, as they promised to work on the project. , building a Kendriya Vidyalaya and building a jetty to enable them to continue their fishing activities.

He said that all these were clearly mentioned in the agreement but now the NAOB authorities are not allowing the fishermen of Bangarampalem and other villages to go fishing. The fishermen have been staging protests for the past one month but the Center and the state government have not taken steps to alleviate their suffering, he said.

Ms. Anita 2,000 fishing families in Payakaraopeta constituency lost their lives. A high fence has been erected around Bangarampalem village and residents have to show their ID card and Aadhaar to enter their village. He sought the state government, which was extending ₹10,000 per month as compensation during fishing holidays, to extend the same to these villagers as they lost their lives.

Fishermen leaders said a similar marine center has been set up on the Karnataka coast and the stranded fishermen have been given skill training and given employment under the scheme. A Kendriya Vidyalaya (Central School) was established for the benefit of the children of the outcast fishermen. They sought the fishermen displaced by NAOB to be given skill training and given employment in hull repair and other works.

‘Public Relations’

Ms. Anita has an apolitical solution to the problem. All the 25 MPs from AP should raise the issue in Parliament and urge the Center to do justice to the fishermen, who were displaced by the NAOB. He sought to build a fishing harbor for the benefit of the fishermen. Describing the fishermen as the ‘defenders of the coast’ in plain clothes as they are the first to detect enemy movements in the coastal waters, he said they provide their countries for the defense program, while our Army defends the nation from enemies.
