On Monday, 19 December 2022, the Anakapalli District police recovered 131 missing phones with the help of a web portal developed by Vignan Engineering students. According to reports, the recovered phones are worth more than Rs 25 lakhs. Anakapalli District Superintendent Gauthami Sali thanked the students for their efforts in developing the portal.

In a press conference held yesterday, the police announced a WhatsApp helpline created last month for suspects to raise complaints about their lost phones. After receiving several complaints, the authorities took action and started a full search. An online portal developed by the students of Vignan Engineering College is maintained as a platform to submit the information provided by the victims, adding the police in their statement.

Lost calls were found in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Telangana and Srikakulam, East Godavari, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam in AP. The police handed over the cell phones found to the victims yesterday.
