Today, the President and First Lady released their 2021 federal tax returns. In this release, the President shared 24 years of tax returns with the American people, reaffirming his commitment to transparency with the American people about the commander in chief’s finances.
The President and First Lady filed their taxes together and reported a federal income of $610,702. They paid $150,439 in federal taxes, and the effective federal tax rate for 2021 is 24.6 percent.
The president and first lady also reported giving $17,394 to 10 different charities. The largest donation to charity is $5,000 to the Beau Biden Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to ensuring that all children are free from the threat of abuse.
The president and his wife also filed their Delaware income tax returns and reported paying $30,765 in Delaware income taxes, and his wife President released his Virginia income tax return and reported paying $2,721 in Virginia income tax.

The vice president and second man released the federal tax returns for 2021, as well as the state tax returns for California, New York and the District of Columbia. Included in today’s release, the vice president released 18 years of tax returns.
The vice president and second man reported a federal income of $1,655,563. They paid $523,371 in federal taxes, an effective federal tax rate of 31.6 percent in 2021. They also paid $120,517 in California income taxes, $2,044 in New York income tax, and Mr. Emhoff paid $54,441 in District of Columbia income tax. They gave $22,100 to charity in 2021.
