The DP World Tour and PGA Tour have announced their latest alliance to continue the fight against the LIV Golf Tour.

Both tours have revealed a new partnership with TATA Steel Professional Golf Tour of India to create a pathway for India’s top players to compete on the best tours in the world.

This strategic partnership will benefit PGTI members. Top players in the 2022 TATA Baja PGTI Rankings will earn DP World Tour membership starting with the 2023 campaign.

The next highest ranking non-exempt player in the top ten ranking will earn a place in the DP World Tour Qualifying School Final Stage, while the other three players will earn a place in the Second Stage.

“Our global lane system allows players from different international Tours to compete on the DP World Tour, and we are pleased to extend that opportunity to players from the TATA Steel India Professional Golf Tour,” said Keith Pelley, CEO of DP World Tours.

“We’ve seen some great players from India establish themselves and win on our Tour, and this partnership will provide more opportunities to follow in their footsteps, and potentially to play on the PGA Tour as well.”

PGTI players will also have access to 60 spots in two Challenge Tour events to be played in India next month – the Duncan Taylor Black Bull Challenge and The Challenge Presented by KGA.

Both tournaments will take place at the Karnataka Golf Association in Bangalore and were announced as part of the Road to Mallorca 2023 Challenge Tour on Wednesday.

Six Indian players have previously won on the DP World Tour. Jeev Milkha Singh and SSP Chawrasia have won four each, while Arjun Atwal is the only Indian to have won on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

“It’s hard to believe more than two decades have passed since Arjun Atwal made history as the first Indian golfer to win on the European Tour and on the PGA Tour,” said Jay Monahan, commissioner of the PGA Tour.

“This partnership, which further builds additional playing opportunities in the men’s professional game, will help fulfill a similar dream for many up and coming Indian golfers.”

The announcement comes two days after the two major allies expanded their relationship with the Korea Professional Golfers Association. On December 5, they also started their partnership with the Japan Golf Tour Organization.

Both the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour clearly value this global relationship as very important following the rise of the LIV Golf Tour and their own alliance with the MENA Tour in the Middle East and North Africa.

The breakaway series, commissioned by Greg Norman and financed by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, joined the MENA Tour to increase their offer for Official World Golf Ranking points.
