Chandigarh, December 19

The Income Tax team along with CRPF jawans conducted searches at the house and office of Punjabi singers Kanwar Grewal and Ranjit Bawa on Monday.

The event started at 9:30 am and continued late into the night.

Sources said that the Income Tax Officer from Ludhiana has led the operation to check the tax evasion by the singers as per the complaint. The event is specifically designed to find out how much the singers actually earn along with their reported wealth.

Grewal’s song ‘Rihai’ has been banned by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The song was about the release of Sikh prisoners who had been in jail for years. The IT official held the event at his residence in Taj Towers, Mohali and another one in Bathinda.

Similar events were held at residences and properties of singer Ranjit Bawa in Chandigarh, Mohali and Batala.

The singers’ families were not allowed to go out. No visitors were allowed either. Officials said further disclosures, if any, would be made at a later date if the move involved any shocking financial activity.

The cyber activity comes in the wake of the intense questioning of several Punjabi singers by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) over the ‘leadership’ of gangsters in the Punjabi music industry.
