A dharna was staged by the port workers, under the authority of All Party Trade Unions, at the Administrative Office Building (AOB) of Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) on Monday.
The honorable president of United Port and Dock Workers Union (CITU) VS Padmanabha Raju has demanded that the Central government should reverse its decision on the promotion of major ports. He sought to implement the wage reform without preconditions and pulling the National Monetization Pipeline. He also protested against the annexation of the Port Hospital, lands and buildings and Kalyana Mandapams.
Leaders of other unions have demanded the return of Public Private Partnership research to PSUs. They said that the Center had already allotted the Gangavaram port to the Adani company and steps were taken to allot the berths at Visakhapatnam Port to the same company. They also said that the Center plans to divest PSUs like Visakhaptnam Steel Plant (VSP), LIC, BSNL and Railways. They said the actions would result in unemployment and they sought to have them reinstated.
AITUC State leader JV Satyanarayana Murthy, AITUC general secretary B Ch Masen, HMS general secretary DK Sarma and CITU leader B. Jagan, Ch. Trinadha Rao, B. Lakshmana Rao and Chandu were among the participants.
