VISAKHAPATNAM: One person was killed and three others injured when a fire broke out in a non-fire zone outside Chinayatapalem village under Sabbavaram mandal in Anakkapalle district on Tuesday morning. About six workers were engaged in the blasting process at the time of the incident.
The roof of the building collapsed a few moments after the explosion of some firecrackers drawing the attention of the residents. They immediately informed the police and fire service personnel.
Police said B. Mahesh (38) and Kamalamma alias Lakshmi were seriously injured and were shifted to KGH in Vizag city where Mahesh succumbed to burn injuries while being treated. The remaining two injured – Shankar Rao and Prasad – were shifted to the government hospital in Anakapalli for treatment.
A. Varaha Trimurthula Naidu from Anakapalli took a small piece of land on the outskirts of the village and reportedly hired some people to make fireworks illegally.
Residents said that more than eight to 10 sets of illegal fires have taken place at different places in Anakapalli district. The police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the main accused in the case.
