The Tata Steel Tour Championship begins December 21

Jamshedpur, 20 Dec: Steel City is set to host a galaxy of golf stars in the season-ending Tata Steel Tour Championship from December 21 to 24, 2022.

Tata Steel Group and PGTI will be hosting the event at the Beldih and Golmuri golf courses in Jamshedpur from 21 to 24 December 2022.

This tournament boasts the largest prize purse in PGTI with prize money doubling to Rs 3 crore this year. 77 professionals will compete for top honors at the Tata Steel Tour Championship in Jamshedpur.

The tournament will feature a star-studded course including some of the biggest names in Indian golf such as Jeev Milkha Singh, Gaganjeet Bhullar (2020 champion), SSP Chawrasia, Shiv Kapur, Jyoti Randhawa and Rashid Khan. The field will also feature the top 60 of the Tata Steel PGTI Ranking with notable names Manu Gandas (leader of the Tata Steel PGTI Ranking), Yuvraj Singh Sandhu, Ajeetesh Sandhu, Om Prakash Chouhan and Karandeep Kochhar as well as Udayan Mane (2019 & 2021 Champion).

This tournament is a 72-hole stroke-play championship and no cuts will be applied. There is a guaranteed prize money for all participants. The Pro-Am event played on 19 December was won by Indian golf star SSP Chawrasia and his team.

The format of the event is as follows: Across all four rounds, half of the course will play their first nine holes at Golmuri and the second nine at Beldih while the other half will play their first nine holes at Golmuri and the second nine at Beldih. From the second round onwards, the top/front half of the leaderboard (top group by score) will play their first nine holes at Golmuri and the second nine at Beldih. The award ceremony will be held at Beldih Golf Club on Saturday, 24 December.

The tournament will determine the PGTI Order of Merit champion for the 2022 PGTI Tata Steel season, an event that is likely to be closely contested.

The two venues, the Beldih & Golmuri golf courses, are both lush green, beautiful and very well maintained, with the stunning Dalma Hills in the background. While the 70-year-old Beldih Golf Course flaunts long fairways, the Golmuri Golf Course is a smaller, greener, boutique course that forbids golfers from making mistakes.

The Tata Steel Group considers its association with this prestigious tour to be a great honor and privilege and a fine representation of what we stand for beyond the joy we all derive from playing.
