Income Tax Notice (ITR): The due date for filing irregular tax returns (ITR) has passed and those who have filed their returns have received ITR refunds or are awaiting ITR refunds. However, while filing IT returns one often makes common mistakes like wrong bank details, using wrong ITR form, mismatch between Form 26AS and filed ITR, etc. the error in the ITR. They can do it online by logging on to the Income Tax portal – https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal. Under section 139 (5) of the Income Tax Act, 1961, the taxpayer can correct the ITR and file a revised ITR by removing the error in the return first.

Talking about the revised IT refund, SEBI’s registered tax and investment expert Jitendra Solanki said, “Under section 139 (5) of the Income Tax Act, income tax, 1961, the taxpayer is allowed to file revised ITR and correct the original complete information.ITR can be corrected even if it is filed after the due date i.e. 31 July 2022. Solanki said one can file revised ITR online by logging into income tax portal. He said it is possible to file revised return before 3 months from the completion of the assessment year, i.e. one can file an updated return till 31 December 2022.

How to file revised return for AY 2022-23 online

As mentioned above, you need to login to the Income Tax portal directly – https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal and follow the instructions given below:

1]Log on to the e-filing website of the Income Tax department – https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal;

2]Log in with your user ID and password on the home page;

3]After opening your account, click on ‘E-File’ and select ‘Income Tax Return’;

4]After opening the tax return page, select AY 2022-23 and ‘Online’ as ‘Select Filing Mode’;

5]Select the option you want to edit;

6]Select any of the statuses — individual, HUF and others — applicable to you;

7]Select the correct ITR form and proceed with the required information;

8]After filling the ITR form you have to verify your revised tax return. A taxpayer can verify his return online by sending the return to the Central Processing Center of the Income Tax Department in Bengaluru through express post.
