Sri Saibaba Temple in Shirdi has been exempted from income tax 175 crore taken in the last three years, the official said, adding that the exemption was given after the Supreme Court’s order.

According to the official statement, while assessing the tax for the year 2015-16, the Income Tax Department considered that Shri Saibaba Sansthan is not a religious trust but a charitable trust, and paid 30 percent tax on gifts received in gift boxes. and issued a tax notice of 183 crore, according to a PTI report.

The trust then filed a petition in the Supreme Court which “ordered the suspension of the tax payable pending the determination of the tax,” he said.

The Income Tax Department has finally granted exemption from tax collected on donation in the donation box, recognizing the Shree Saibaba Sansthan as a religious and charitable trust, said the PTI reports.

“Therefore, Sri Saibaba Sansthan is exempted from income tax 175 crore has been taken in the last three years,” he said.
