Five workers were injured in an explosion at the Hetero Drugs plant in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam district, police said on Thursday.

The condition of two of the injured is said to be critical and they have been admitted to a hospital in Visakhapatnam.

The incident took place at the pharmaceutical company’s store in Nakkapallion on Wednesday night.

The explosion took place in a reactor and the workers working there were injured when the explosion started a fire and destroyed the entire place.

Firefighters came and put out the fire. After the incident, the management stopped the works in the plant.

Three of the injured have been admitted to a local hospital while two others have been shifted to Visakhapatnam and their condition is said to be critical.

Meanwhile, the leaders of CITU demanded that the company management give information to the workers and pay compensation to the families of the injured.

The group also experienced an explosion in 2016, killing one worker and injuring two others.
