Responding to a question on the proposed Bhogapuram airport and the status of the Visakhapatnam airport, by BJP’s Rajya Sabha Member GVL Narasimha Rao on Monday, Minister of State for plane Gen. ₹2,500 crore and the Visakhapatnam Airport has now had no commercial flights for 30 years.

Gen Singh said that the Government of India had given ‘Site Clearance’ to the Government of Andhra Pradesh in January, 2016 for the development of Bhogapuram Greenfield Airport. Later, the ‘In-Principle’ for the project was given by the Government of India to the Government of Andhra Pradesh in October, 2016.

The Minister also said that the Government of Andhra Pradesh has taken up the development of Bhogapuram Airport on Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis.

The land required for the development of the airport is about 2,203 hectares and the Phase I development of the airport will be able to handle 6 million passengers a year.

The time limit for the completion of the airport project depends on many factors such as land acquisition, obtaining required permits, financing and other factors.

The Minister also said that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and GoAP in September, 2022 for the mutation of the entire 372.72 hectare land acquired by AAI in Vizag Civil Enclave. on behalf of AAI with permission. use the said land for any purpose without restrictions.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) in September, 2022 to GoAP for the closure of scheduled commercial activities at the Civil Enclave at Vizag Naval Airfield (lNS Dega) for the current 30 years. year, depending on the implementation of the terms of the MoU entered into. between AAI and GoAP.
