Vishakapatnam: A gas leak was reported at a Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) refinery in Andhra Pradesh’s Vishakapatnam on Wednesday.

There were hundreds of workers at the refinery at the time of the incident. The gas leak caused panic among the workers who quickly ran out of the factory after the incident.

No injuries were reported in the incident. The fire brigade reached the spot and took care of the leakage.

“There was a small gas leakage in the crude oil distillation unit (CDU). The workers were alerted and sounded the siren. The technical team rushed to the spot and brought it under control,” HPCL PRO Kalidas told ANI.

In May last year, at least eight people were killed and hundreds more injured when gas erupted from a chemical plant in Visakhapatnam and quickly spread to villages in a five kilometer radius.
