VISAKHAPATNAM: A 10-year-old boy died after a private bus ran over him in Ukkunagaram on Tuesday. What happened sparked protests in the area with many people, such as workers of steel plants, criticizing the car and demanding serious work on the matter management.

The deceased has been identified as P Severin. According to police, the accident occurred when the boy’s mother, Sowjanya, was taking him to school on her two-wheeler on Belacheruvu Road in Steel Plant Township, Sector-8.

His bike skidded when he saw the car coming from the opposite direction. The little boy fell on the left side of the car, and the mother fell on the right side.

Family members said the boy had moved with his mother to Vizag from the US before the outbreak and stayed with his grandparents. Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police Anand Reddy and Trinadha Rao rushed to get the information.

Meanwhile, B Ganga Rao’s group demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation for the boy’s family and demanded the management of the steel plants to arrange security in the town. The steel plant management has decided to regulate the movement of heavy vehicles during school and office hours on the road between Kurmannapalem and Desapatrunipalem check posts.

In a letter to the South zone ACP, RINL general manager Y Chandrasekhar confirmed that they will deploy home guards to prevent accidents in the region. He urged the ACP to appoint policemen to regulate traffic in school areas.
